Support for Tonga

NTAS

As many of you are aware, a volcanic eruption 40 miles (65 km) from the Kingdom of Tonga on January 15th, 2022 has covered our small island home with ash and generated tsunami waves that reached as far as the coast of North and South America and Japan. The blast from the eruption could be heard as far as Fiji and observed from space. Three bodies have been recovered and areas of Tongatapu and Ha'apai are damaged from the tsunami or from ash.

International agencies are on the ground to assist the Tongan government in assessing the damage and to restore telephone and internet cables which also suffered heavy damage and prevented communication from overseas. It is becoming more clear that the people of Tonga will need assistance with housing, access to clean water and basic necessities as they rebuild from the ground up.

The National Tongan American Society has created a GoFundMe for those of you who have reached out to us wanting to help help our island Kingdom of Tonga during these difficult times caused by the tsunami. All funds will be sent to the Tongan government and/or various local faith based leaders to help local families affected by the tsunami. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that will make a difference to many families throughout Tonga.
